Facelift Surgery Consultation
The facelift surgery consultation serves several purposes:
First, it’s an opportunity for Dr. Guyuron to evaluate the facelift candidate and develop an understanding of the candidate’s goals.
It allows a plastic surgeon specializing in the face area like Dr. Guyuron to discuss the surgery in greater detail and work on a customized treatment plan based on the patient’s desired outcome.
Most facelift patients typically desire improvements to one or more of the following:
- Jowls that are the result of sagging tissues (loose skin)
- Wrinkles or folds in the skin
- Creases extending from the nose to the corners of the mouth
- A tired expression (sagging skin)
- Marionette lines
- Patchy skin discoloration
Dr. Guyuron will inquire about the facelift candidate’s medical and health history, including any prior surgeries, to rule out any elements that could increase risks.
Patients who plan to visit from out of town for a world-class surgical experience can schedule a Skype or phone consultation with Dr. Guyuron to discuss their goals.

The Facelift Surgical Procedure
A facelift is typically performed as an outpatient procedure at Dr. Guyuron’s state-of-the-art surgical facility.
The surgical procedure does require general anesthesia.
Dr. Guyuron will want to know how you react to since some candidates do not react well to general anesthesia.
To begin surgery, Dr. Guyuron makes incisions along the hairline at the temples, continuing around the ear and extending into the hairline behind the ear.
These incisions are designed in such a way that after the healing is complete often you can style your hair any way you wish without the scars being clearly visible.
Through the incisions, he redistributes fat in the face, jowls and neck, and repositions the tissue. Dr. Guyuron may tighten the facial muscles.
He will re-drape the facial skin and remove any excess.
If need be, Dr. Guyuron will make an additional incision underneath the chin for better access to the neck, and contour it during a procedure known as neck lift or submental lipectomy.
Dr. Guyuron often injects fat, which contains stem cells to improve the skin elasticity and replace the lost volume.
Facelift surgery concentrates on the mid and lower face. It can be combined with other procedures for more dramatic and comprehensive results around the eyes. For example, facelift patients can also opt for brow-lift to elevate the brow line and smooth forehead wrinkles/furrows, or blepharoplasty to refresh the upper and/or lower eyelids.
Recovering from Facelift Surgery
Facelift patients will experience some bruising and swelling after surgery, but this can be reduced with special medications and cold compresses.
Dr. Guyuron will provide detailed instructions for caring for the face after surgery, as well as oral or topical medications to aid healing.
Full recovery time varies by patient, but most patients are usually back to their normal routine within three weeks.
Is Facelift Surgery Considered a Cosmetic Surgery?
Facelift surgery is indeed a type of cosmetic surgery. This is due to the fact that it is used to improve the appearance of the face by correcting various signs of aging.
These signs include wrinkles, sagging skin, and drooping eyelids.
There are two main types of facelift surgery: traditional facelift and mini facelift.
Traditional facelift surgery involves making incisions in the hairline near the temples, extending down in front of the ears, and continuing around behind the ears.
The skin is then lifted away from the underlying tissue and muscles before being tightened with stitches. The excess skin is then trimmed away and the incisions are closed with stitches.
Mini facelift surgery is similar to traditional facelift surgery, but the incisions are much smaller.
The skin is lifted and tightened in a similar manner, but only a small amount of excess skin is removed. As a result, mini facelifts have a shorter recovery time than traditional facelifts.
Both types of facelift surgery can be performed using either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation.
Most people return to their normal activities within two weeks, although strenuous activity should be avoided for at least four weeks.
How long does Cosmetic Surgery like a Facelift last?
The results of facelift surgery are usually long-lasting, although they may not be permanent.
The aging process will eventually cause the skin and underlying tissues to loosen and sag again.
Facelift surgery can be repeated every five to seven years to maintain the results.
If you are considering facelift surgery, it is important to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has experience performing this procedure.
During your consultation, Dr. Guyuron will evaluate your facial structure and skin elasticity to determine if you are a good candidate for facelift surgery.
Interested in a Mini-Facelift?
A mini facelift, also known as a partial facelift or a limited incision facelift, is a surgical procedure that is used to improve the appearance of the face. It can be used to treat wrinkles and sagging skin on the face and neck.
The mini facelift is a less invasive alternative to the traditional facelift. It is usually performed under local anesthesia, and the incisions are made in inconspicuous areas around the ears.
Recovery from a mini facelift is usually quicker than recovery from a traditional facelift. Most people can return to work and their normal activities within a week or two.
If you are considering a mini facelift, be sure to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon such as Dr. Guyuron who has experience performing this procedure.
